  Glänta, Göteborg
Glänta (Göteborg) was founded in 1993. It is a quarterly cultural journal mixing political and philosophical essays, fiction, poetry and art projects; sometimes within a thematic framework, sometimes not. Our ambition is to act contrary to expectations. The attitude is critical, yet bearing in mind that the label “critical” easily becomes very self-righteous and false. Therefore we always try to present a mix of established writers, often scholars, and young, non-established writers, authors and artists, with experiences and views that aren’t reflected in the big newspapers or magazines. Glänta is a partner journal of Eurozine.

  Some Versions of a Paradox

The great danger arising from the existence of people forced to live outside the common world is that they are thrown back, in the midst of civilization, on their natural givenness, on their mere differentiation. They lack that tremendous equalizing of differences which comes from being citizens of some commonwealth and yet, since they are no longer allowed to partake in the human artifice, they begin to belong to the human race in much the same ways that animals belong to a specific animal species. The paradox involved in the loss of human rights is that such loss coincides with... [EN] [Glänta]

MEXICAN RADIO GOES TO THE NORTH POLE

When wireless broadcasting began in the 1920s, artists and writers around the world were gripped by what some historians have called “the madness of radio.” A frenzy for the new technology seized enthusiasts from Paris to Mexico City and led to some outrageous tales: a Chicago doctor believed newborns could be educated by being wired to receivers, and a Mexican poet proposed designing miniature earphones for parrots in order to spare their owners the trouble of teaching them to talk. But of all the mad wireless projects from the 1920s, one stands out for its fantastic twists and turns:... [EN] [Cabinet]

The How-To of Bare Life: A Story of O.

This is the story of O: a deaf-blind orphan, a ”defective” child, a Professor of Psychology, a Soviet model citizen. This is also a story of the human being and its prosthesis, the inhuman. [EN] [Glänta]
